AutoDrive will present at the WCRR the first Radar Ground-Profile Correlation for accurate speed measuring.
Two radar devices pointing to the ground that are deployed along the longitudinal axis of the tracks with a known gap between them can be used for measuring the delay between profiles and estimate the speed of the train precisely. An accuracy better than ±0.5% accuracy can be achieved with 60 cm gap between sensors at 360 km/h. Accuracy can be improved up to more than 600 times by installing one sensor at the head of the train and the other one at the tail. Train speed estimation based on the time-correlation of ground profiles works fine in snowed environments without losing accuracy.
